Someone Destroyed EVERY PORT on this Mac Mini...
In this video, I go over the process of repairing an M2 Mac Mini that has had every single one of its ports intentionally damaged. I have no idea why such a thing would have been done to this machine, but it is not the first time I have seen one damaged in this way (on eBay, at least). To accomplish this repair, I utilized a set of ports from an A12Z-based DTK Mac Mini, which are identical to those used on the M2 (and M1) Mac Mini.

Damaged M2 Mac Mini - Repair + Upgrade
Просмотров 40 тыс.Месяц назад
In this video, I perform some minor board repair, as well as a soldered storage upgrade, to @ActionRetro's M2 Apple Mac Mini. The board only had two very minor issues, though one component was missing. After sourcing the missing component from another board and correcting other minor soldering issues, the board began working perfectly once again. The board is then finished off with an upgrade f...

In this video, I go over the process of completely restoring an A12Z-based Apple Silicon Developer Transition Kit "DTK" Mac Mini that I got from China sold essentially as scrap. After many months of work, research, and testing, I was FINALLY able to fully restore one of these salvage DTK logic boards, and get it back up and running booting macOS! The culmination of all that work is shown here, ...
Lenovo Legion Go 32GB RAM Upgrade
Просмотров 152 тыс.5 месяцев назад
In this video, I go over the process of upgrading a Lenovo Legion Go handheld PC from its stock 16GB of system memory, to 32GB. Unlike in my previous attempt at upgrading the Steam Deck, I had to manually modify the SPD data in the system BIOS in order for it detect all the installed memory, rather than simply flashing a pre-modified BIOS image. The RAM chips can be purchased here (part number ...
Upgrading Apple Silicon Soldered SSDs
Просмотров 225 тыс.5 месяцев назад
In this video, I go over the process of upgrading Apple Silicon Macs, specifically an M1 MacBook Air in this case, to the maximum of 2TB of storage. This guide covers performing the upgrade on any machine with a standard M1 or M2 CPU (supports 2 NANDs only) that utilizes BGA110 NAND chipsets. In this instance, I successfully upgraded an odd education model M1 MacBook Air, from a single-NAND 128...
Touchbar MacBook Pro NVMe SSD Upgrade
Просмотров 89 тыс.6 месяцев назад
In this video, I go over the process of upgrading a 2016-2017 Touchbar MacBook Pro soldered SSD, by converting it to support removable NVMe SSDs. This modification was designed by iBoff, and essentially involves soldering a custom PCB on the board in place of the original onboard SSD controller, utilizing its PCIe I/O to connect a standard NVMe SSD. All info can be found on iBoff's webpage here...

In this video, I upgrade the system memory of a Steam Deck from its original 16GB to 32GB. These Steam Decks only ever came from the factory with 16GB, so doubling that to 32GB makes for quite a unique upgrade. The necessary modded Steam Deck BIOS images can be found here: balika011.hu/deck_32gb/ The Windows BIOS updating utility can be found here: dosdude1.com/files/biosmods/steamdeck-32gb-ram...
Restoring a Prototype iPod Touch 2nd Generation
Просмотров 128 тыс.8 месяцев назад
In this video, I go over the process I went though to get a rare prototype iPod Touch 2nd generation development board fully functioning and booting iOS. Although I hoped to be able to get it up and running with its original SOC, the SOCs these come with have a different bootloader that cannot boot any production version of iOS. As such, I ended up having to replace the SOC with one from a prod...
Repairing a Cheap 12-inch MacBook

In this video, I perform a few minor repairs to a 2015 12-inch MacBook that I recently purchased off eBay for only $46. All the issues that the machine had were incurred from a poor prior attempt at replacing the battery in the machine. This included a damaged trackpad/keyboard connector, a ripped WiFi antenna I-PEX connector, and a failed headphone jack/audio board. After perform the necessary...
M1 Mac Mini Soldered SSD Upgrade
Просмотров 503 тыс.10 месяцев назад
In this video, @lukemiani joins me to perform a soldered storage upgrade on his Apple M1-based Mac Mini, taking it from the base 256GB configuration all the way to the maximum of 2TB! While the upgrade process itself is generally straightforward, a combination of either bad NANDs or improperly programmed NANDs made the process a bit more difficult than it otherwise would be. In the end, the upg...

In this video, I demonstrate a Racal 6103E digital radio test set working with an original iPhone. A test set such as this is designed to serve as a very low-power cellular BTS that a phone can connect to, and from there perform tests on the connected phone. I also explain how to program a SIM card for use with this test set, allowing more modern GSM devices to interact with it. Stock ROM image...
Creating the World's First Quad Core Mid-2012 13-inch MacBook Pro
Просмотров 81 тыс.Год назад
In this video, I perform quite an awesome CPU upgrade on a Mid-2012 13-inch MacBook Pro, upgrading it from its original dual core Core i5-3210M CPU to a very odd quad core Core i7-3615QE CPU. The "QE" series Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs are unique, as they are the only quad core variants that share the same BGA footprint and pinout with the standard dual core "M" series CPUs. The upgrade we...
Building a "Mid-2012" 17-inch MacBook Pro

In this video, I upgrade the CPU and PCH of a Late-2011 17" MacBook Pro to Ivy Bridge components, essentially building a custom "Mid-2012" 17" MacBook Pro! Unfortunately, though, the upgrade didn't turn out quite as perfect as I had hoped, as due to logic board differences between the Mid-2012 15" MacBook Pro and the 2011 models, I was unable to utilize the original Apple EFI firmware. Luckily,...
Custom 2.5-inch IDE SSD Assembly and Testing

In this video, I assemble and test a custom 2.5-inch IDE SSD that I've designed, which is compatible with any machine that normally utilizes a 2.5" IDE hard disk, or 3.5" IDE hard disk with a simple adapter. This drive's design is based heavily off my original IDE SSD design, created for the 1.8" ZIF IDE SSD I made a video about previously. Check out PCBWay here: www.pcbway.com/ The design can ...

Thanks for sharing! That was very useful for me!
Do you offer this SSD upgrade for MacBook Air M1 in your repair shop?
Painrock1234 likes destorying tech
someone probaly had something illegal on it
There is actually a guy sitting here on RUclips that's already done that a couple times showed how to make those work again
Yes apples drills the boards but did you know that you can actually still use those and put some to get back together especially if you find one of the developers kits you really want to do that
Can I buy a dtk it would look cool for some wall art
ill pay you to upgrade to 32gb.. lets connect
That's pretty much done by someone's crazy ex GF haha
@dosdude1 Hi it works with the code too core i7-3615qe -SR0MR ?
SR0MR is the i7-3612QM, which will not work. Only CPUs that will are the i7-3615QE (SR0NC) or i7-3612QE (SR0ND).
You should get some low melt solder to help get the old solder and components off
Is there any chance i could send my legion go to you for this upgrade and what would I be looking at financially?
Get yourself a Desoldering station. Yest they are expensive, but they make desoldering an absolutely a breeze. You need one that uses an air compressor to provide a vacuum. I used one for years and they make the desoldering of large arrays of pins like this so simple.
We give you $500 and we give you back a gift card 😂😆
Are you in Los Angeles? Care to install this for me? How much! :) :)
Hi ! One question. If i have macbook A2337 and want storage upgrade to 2TB. I have 2xH23B8T85K7AFJ Hynix chips. Can i use „KICM223-dumps.zip“ if these hynix nands are not blank ? Thanks
you are doing such awesome work
Impressive skills!!!
I’m currently using a 13 inch 2017 MacBook Air that I got off of eBay for $330, and I pached it with OpenCore Legacy Patcher and installed macOS Somoma on it, I’m not going to install macOS Sequoia right now because it’s still a beta, it’s my first MacBook ever and it runs very well
@dosdude1 Can you recommend me any EEPROM programmers? I’m trying to flash coreboot onto some systems, but every time I get a programmer they always fail and they are really cheap. Can you recommend me some?
Either Xgecu T56 or TL866.
@@dosdude1 Thanks!
Great nerdy video. I love it. Since I just upgraded my 11 inch to Sonoma using the Open Core Legacy Patcher I would have loved to see some Intel Power Gadget data what frequencies the i7 really runs under stress. The little original 1.6 can stay under full load at 2.5 - 2.6Ghz out of 2.7 top speed. Also differences in wattages CPU and package would have been interesting and if the 11inch has enough headroom for the additional heat.
Nice job, dude. ★★★★★
Genius. May I ask what the three button battery holder should be used for?
Honestly I’m just realizing how pitiful the port arrangement is in the modern Mac minis. They should share the layout with the 2012 Mac Mini but replace the FireWire and thunderbolt 1 with two thunderbolt 3.
Rossmann will grill you.
Mighty Mouse is supported
Oh what a cooooool superrrrrr video and skillllssss!!!! I DO LOVE IT!!!
Sending to China for recycling - wow, that really sounds like sustainability. Have the greenwashers at Apple ever explained how many resources are wasted on the trip?
Solder very weak, put more flux and less solder tin.
What series of adapters are you using to connect this Mac to your Cinema Display ?
Do you have something like this for sale? I’m interested. Thank you
Can you do this mod for a fee? I'd love to upgrade the storage on my M1 Mac Mini. Also would love to do a RAM upgrade if that's possible.
where can you buy those chips
After doing this do you need to prevent future OS updates from Apple?
This was a apple guy who did this 😂😂😂
Considering all the time and effort you’ve spend, it would have been ‘cheaper’ to just buy a second hand MM from a private person. But you would not have any content which generates another $10 😂
What type of heater tool do you have? And that's a special tool you have to put the board sitted?
most likely apple did this! when you trade in an iphone for a new one they SHRED the old ones!
I was wondering if there is any way we can upgrade the 650m gpu to like a 670m or even a 680m
why are you talking like people are sleeping in the next room over?
Watching you dismantle and reassemble logic boards, I/O ports, etc. is like watching a neurosurgeon at work. I sit and watch in total amazement as you work your magic. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos.
bro sounds like he needs some water
Awesome video! Your soldering skills are awesome!
Good to see this is all stuff that I can do at home on my dining table!
the hate is real
because they can’t pull out the storage, so this is their way of “destroying data”
Look like someone stuck a fat soldering iron tip inside those ports.
Obviously, a jilted lover did it.
Is dosdude1, Freddie Highmore's secret identity?
Could it be ex-display, so preventing the public from putting things into the ports?
